I am honored to be chosen as the artist for the Audubon Zoo entry sculpture project in New Orleans, Louisiana. The commission included five life size elephants, five lions and five meerkats.
This site is dedicated specifically for this monumental project.
The monuments are all installed. The final rockwork will be completed this summer.
Please click on the individual categories at left to see the progress of each.

This elephant family has been completed in clay at life size. The bull will be almost 12' tall! Shown here is the miniature proposal, which was then be enlarged to maquette size (1/7th life size) and then finally to full life size. Each size requires full detail in clay.
The new bronze sculptures will replace an existing fiberglass sculpture that has been at the entrance to the zoo for years. The original sculpture was designed for temporary display only. Over the years, the material began to fail and the decision was made to replace it with timeless bronze.
The island will feature five elephants and five lions. The challenge will be to meld the interaction of the two species at the waterhole, and still invite those of all ages to relate to the animals. There will be elements of strength and playfulness, along with tender exchanges between mothers and babies.
This map shows the preliminary layout for the island, including the five elephants and five lions.
The existing fiberglass elephant sculptures are failing with the elements. We plan on following the water fountain theme with the new bull.
